Use Cases for Cork Rubber Copolymer Tape

Use Cases for Cork Rubber Copolymer Tape

Belting and Rollers

  • Conveyor belts
  • Kick Strip belting replacement (Brunswick A2)
  • Roller covering for Commerical Printers

Fishing Rod Handles

  • Rugged rod wrap for fishing rods
  • Used as heavy duty self-adhesive grip tape for surf, jetty, pier and jig rods

Sealing and gasketing

  • Field‑made gaskets for panels, access doors, NEMA enclosures, lighting housings
  • HVAC duct and curb flange seals; air handler and plenum joints
  • Marine hatch, deck hardware bedding, and window/door weatherstripping
  • Speaker, instrument, and appliance housing gaskets

Vibration, shock, and noise control

  • Vibration pads under small compressors, pumps, fans, drives, transformers
  • Anti‑squeak/anti‑rattle (BSR) interfaces in vehicles, appliances, and HVAC
  • Damping layer between metal panels or brackets to cut ringing and buzz

Mounting, spacing, and protection

  • Cushioning between dissimilar materials (metal–glass, metal–plastic)
  • Lining for clamps, pipe hangers, and clips to prevent abrasion and galvanic corrosion
  • Equipment feet, bumpers, and skid‑resistant pads
  • Edge padding and protective strips for fixtures and racks

Thermal/acoustic isolation and decoupling

  • Decoupling rails, channels, or mounts to reduce sound transmission
  • Thermal breaks between metal components to reduce cold/thermal bridging

Automotive/transportation specifics

  • Trim and interior panel isolation to prevent squeaks
  • Gaskets under roof racks, emblems, license plates, lamp housings
  • Under‑hood ancillary mounts where moderate oil resistance is needed (rubber type dependent)

Electronics and electrical

  • Panel spacer/seal for control boxes and junction boxes
  • Transformer/PCB standoff cushioning (non‑structural)

Why this material works

  • Cork–rubber composite: compressible, resilient, conforms to irregularities, good recovery; rubber type can provide oil/fuel or weather resistance.
  • Acrylic PSA: strong long‑term bond, good shear/creep resistance, UV/oxidation/temperature stability; adheres well to metals, glass, many plastics, painted surfaces.

Selection tips

  • Rubber type: NBR for oils/fuels; neoprene for general purpose; EPDM for outdoor/UV/water; SBR for economy.
  • Thickness/density: thicker/softer for vibration and gap filling; thinner/denser for sealing and dimensional stability.
  • Surface prep: clean/dry; apply firm pressure; allow 24–72 hours for full bond strength. Use mechanical compression where a lasting seal is required.

Limitations

  • Not a structural adhesive; avoid high dynamic shear loads. Shear at 1" x 1" with 500 grams is 1,000 hours; with 1,000 grams result is 200 hours (minimum).
  • Continuous high heat is limited (typical acrylic PSA service ~90–120°C; check datasheet).
  • Submersion in fuels/solvents depends on rubber binder; acrylic PSA may not be immersion‑rated.
  • Compression set occurs if over‑compressed; design for appropriate squeeze. Compression at 400 PSI results in 40-55%.
